The Niigata Bandaijima Art Museum opened in July of 2003 as a branch of the Niigata Prefectural Museum of Modern Art. The museum is built on the Taiko collection which was put together by a local collector, but in addition to Japanese works that show the evolution of modern art, we have gathered 19th century western art from styles such as Barbizon and Les Nabis, styles which are closely related to modern Japanese art, and display them in our collection gallery and special exhibitions.
